FYI: I marked this NSFW because there is some nudity, albeit very stylized. It may be SFW in your office - you be the judge. posted by Joey Michaels at 2:49 AM on August 31, 2003

Oh my, this is absolutely brilliant! I didn't laugh watching paintings since 1999 or something, but i just did and i'm glad. Thanks! posted by Sijeka at 5:13 AM on August 31, 2003
I've been a fan of Shag's art for awhile now...it's high time I made it to one of his shows (it seems there are two upcoming in September, both in the L.A. area).
I love this stuff! A friend is doing the Peace Corps thing in Micronesia and she asked for stationary last Christmas. I sent her the Shag's Tiki set. It just seemed like it would be really cool to get letters from Micronesia on that. posted by ukamikanasi at 8:08 AM on August 31, 2003
I think the NSFW stuff is going too far, this is totally harmless stuff from the 60s. posted by mathowie at 9:28 AM on August 31, 2003

Is there a name for this particular art style? I remember reading an old Volvo manual drawn entirely in this style, ladies with spidery gloved hands changing oil etc... posted by Termite at 11:29 AM on August 31, 2003
I've got #82/250 of this guy hanging in my bedroom. It's probably the coolest thing I own that doesn't plug in. posted by uftheory at 11:34 AM on August 31, 2003
mathowie: I know that and you know that, but these are the days when Ashcroft has to cover up the breasts of a topless Greek-style statue... I have no idea what the rest of the world considers SFW these days. posted by Joey Michaels at 2:33 PM on August 31, 2003
Old post, i love it though, have it on my faovrites. posted by sourbrew at 8:52 PM on August 31, 2003
I've always found Shag's stuff a little lightweight compared to some of the other artists in the Juxtapoz scene. If Shag is a Bartle's and Jaymes, Robt. Williams is a couple shots of Appleton 151. Matter of taste of course. posted by arto at 10:10 PM on August 31, 2003

I always loved Shag's stuff. Between his use of color to the theme of something slightly sinister always going on in the picture his art is awesome. Too bad he doesn't really put out posters... just prints that a poor college kid couldn't afford. Otherwise awesome stuff. posted by asterisk at 8:33 PM on September 1, 2003
