I guess this isn't what I heard yesterday on NPR's The World.

The World's Aaron Schachter meets Israel's hip-hop stars, Hadag Nachash...who've just hit it big with a song made up of Israeli bumper-stickers.


C'mon kids. Let's do the Israel/Palestine fight right here on the blue, thus keeping the bombs (musical bombs) off the street!

BTW, I don't choose sides here, I just choose less bloodshed.

I'm not too impressed with any of this, except Neocon LuvSong (the rapping technique is so much better than in Olive Trees that it's hard to believe it's the same person). Still doesn't hold a candle to the best american hiphop, but that's a high bar (it's been about 20 years since hiphop got started -- 20 years after the start of jazz was 1930 or so, and Europe didn't start putting out decent jazz until fairly recently).

I don't speak hebrew so I can't evaluate Hadag Nachash's lyrics, but their beats sound a little stilted, and the technique is, again, mediocre at best.

Alright, I guess that part goes more for Hadag Nachash. The point remains, though: they don't compare to (say) Nas. That's an unfair comparison, maybe, but one worth making.

There's also The Philistines. Two Palestinian-American brothers from East Tennessee (one of which I was good friends with back in High School). They mention sweet tea, Waffle House (diced and covered), and NC tobacco, but no Dr. Enuf.

The tracks on their site have some beats by Iron Sheik.
